About

The Institute of Christianity and Warfare (ICW) is a ministry and educational institute dedicated to exploring the relationship between Christianity and the history of warfare. The founders established ICW to bridge a notable research gap and gain an understanding of this intricate intersection. While the teachings of Jesus Christ emphasize peace and love, the realities of a fallen world have seen Christians involved in warfare throughout history.

Since the beginning of humanity, warfare has played a significant role in society, and the Scripture consistently acknowledges the realities of war.

Christians have often found themselves on battlefields throughout history, whether fighting for their homeland or against tyranny. Regardless of how Christians entered the battle, a commonality usually appears, one often centered on Jesus Christ and the Christian faith.

While war reveals humanity's darkest aspects, it also serves as a stage for God's sovereignty and providence, sometimes manifesting as judgment or deliverance from evil. The church has historically responded to the devastation of war by mobilizing resources to serve those affected, embodying Christ's mission in the midst of darkness.

The mission of ICW is to explore and bring to light the historical significance of Christians in the context of warfare.

The Institute of Christianity and Warfare is a ministry partner of Christ the King Church in northern Maine. The fellows follow the historical statements of the Apostles and Nicene Creeds, aligning closely with the original reformers of the 16th century.
