The Institute of Christianity and Warfare (ICW) is an educational institute dedicated to exploring the relationship between Christianity and the history of warfare, while also emphasizing the significance of current events and global conflicts connected to foreign policy and Christianity.
The founders established ICW to bridge a notable research gap and gain a deeper understanding of this intricate intersection.
Since the beginning of humanity, warfare has played a significant role in society, and Scripture consistently acknowledges its realities. Christians have often found themselves on battlefields, whether fighting for their homeland or against tyranny. A common thread in these experiences is often centered on Jesus Christ and the Christian faith.
While war reveals humanity's darkest aspects, it also serves as a stage for God's sovereignty and providence, sometimes manifesting as judgment or deliverance from evil. The church has historically responded to the devastation of war by mobilizing resources to serve those affected, embodying Christ's mission amidst darkness.
Our mission is to explore and illuminate the historical significance of Christians in the context of warfare while emphasizing the importance of staying informed about current events, both domestic and abroad, including international relations and foreign policy.
We believe that the Christian voice in education and independent reflection should never be silenced. By promoting informed dialogue and critical engagement, we empower individuals to navigate complex issues with wisdom and compassion, fostering understanding and unity in an increasingly divided world.
The research fellows follow the historical statements of the Apostles and Nicene Creeds, aligning closely with the original reformers of the 16th century.
